Role Overview:

The Project Manager for Data Engineering and Analytics is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing data-centric projects that support Athena’s strategic objectives. This role ensures timely and quality delivery of data engineering and analytics initiatives by coordinating cross-functional teams, managing resources, and implementing best practices for data infrastructure, analysis, and reporting. The Project Manager plays a critical role in driving data-driven decision-making and enhancing Athena’s capabilities in analytics and business intelligence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

DUTIES:

  • Project Planning and Coordination: Develop comprehensive project plans that outline scope, objectives, timelines, resources, and deliverables for data engineering and analytics initiatives.

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with business leaders, data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of project objectives with organizational goals.

  • Resource Allocation: Manage project resources, including personnel, technology, and budget, to ensure efficient execution and high-quality outcomes

  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful completion of projects.

  • Project Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of project plans, progress reports, metrics, and lessons learned.

  • Process Optimization: Continuously improve project management methodologies and frameworks to enhance efficiency and quality of delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • End-to-End Project Management: Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of data engineering and analytics projects.

  • Data Infrastructure and Pipeline Oversight: Coordinate efforts to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures.

  • Analytics and Reporting: Ensure analytics solutions are effectively implemented to provide actionable insights that drive business decisions.

  • Performance Monitoring: Track project performance against milestones, deliverables, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Continuous Improvement: Integrate feedback and lessons learned into future project planning to enhance processes and results.

  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to data governance policies, security standards, and industry best practices.

INTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS

  • Director, Data Engineering and Analytics: Provides strategic direction and oversight for data initiatives.

  • Data Engineers and Analysts: Collaborate on building data pipelines, analytics models, and reporting solutions.

  • Business Leaders: Ensure alignment of data projects with broader organizational objectives.

  • IT and Security Teams: Ensure adherence to data governance, privacy, and security standards.

EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS:
  • Technology Vendors: Provide tools and platforms for data engineering and analytics solutions.

  • Consultants and Industry Experts: Offer guidance on best practices and emerging trends in data management and analytics.

Skills:

  • Project Management Expertise: Proficient in project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall,

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with data engineering concepts, analytics frameworks, and cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Data Literacy: Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL processes, data storage solutions, and data governance principles.

  • Analytical and Critical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex data sets and provide strategic insights.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills for coordinating cross-functional teams and conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Skilled in troubleshooting issues, identifying solutions, and making data-driven decisions.

  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring timely delivery.

Relevant Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, preferably within data engineering, analytics, or business intelligence environments.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex data projects from inception to completion.

  • Experience working with data architecture, ETL processes, and analytics tools.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern data technologies (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Apache Spark).

Educational and Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Professional certifications in Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, CSM) are preferred.

Direct Reports and Span of Control:

This is an individual contributor role that may be supported by project specialists depending on project scope and complexity.
